The wedding is in August so I’m sure there is still more to come.
So last Sunday was the Cam’s Hall Wedding Fair in Fareham and, despite the sun shining for large portions of the day, many Brides-to-be attended. The Hall is a lovely setting for a wedding and the stairs to the ceremony room looked particularly elegant with candles in lanterns lighting them. Wedding breakfasts and receptions are usually held in a marquee on the back of the building. In fact Paul and Karen, who run PMN wedding fairs were married there on the Saturday before this event – such dedication!
The Party DJ stand was set up in the Marquee which was busy throughout the day. My friend and colleague Gary Evans joined me for the day and we had a great time finding out about the plans of the visitors and talking to the other exhibitors.
Next to us was a sweet table supplier we hadn’t met before – L.C. Sweet Occasions. THIS is the reason I came back to DJ’ing!
I stopped DJ’ing in about 2000 when I opened another business that needed all my focus and if I had continued DJ’ing I”d have had no time left to spend with the family. Our new enterprise was a fabulous experience and was initially very successful but as time went on things got harder the pressure sucked out any enjoyment we gained. About 4 years ago Ce, my wife, suggested that I consider returning to DJ’ing because I was always passionate about it. I had been asked to play at a number of events in the interim and had to decline because I had no equipment and my music library wasn’t totally up to date – we often attended these events as guests and I frequently regretted the fact I couldn’t help. This wedding really confirmed to me that I made the right decision to come back.
I’ve known Jez for around eight years, he actually worked for us for at least five years and is a really lovely guy, so when he contacted me and asked if I’d be available to DJ for his wedding to Alex I was absolutely delighted.
The wedding was held at the Langtry Manor Hotel in Bournemouth and was my first outdoor ceremony. The whole day was full of beautiful touches reflecting Axy and Jez’s characters. The Bridal Party entered to “All I Want Is You” by Barry Louis Polisar, their ceremony featured a lovely poem about two dinosaurs, their family and friends sang “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” accompanied by a friend on the ukulele, and there was a lovely rendition of the Etta James classic “At Last” sung by a member of the family. The new Mr and Mrs Hood and their wedding party came back down the aisle to “One Day Like This” by Elbow.
Their were numerous special moments throughout the day and their evening reception really rocked, but for me it was all about doing what I really love for people who, five years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to help.
Axy and Jez, thank you so much for allowing me to take part in your very special day. I wish you all the happiness in the World! To the Blatchford’s, the Hood’s and all their extended family and friends, thanks for making me so welcome and for making my role so easy.

Last Saturday was a very special day. I know I go on about how much I love what I do, but really, what’s not to love!
This was my first visit to Winslowe House, a truly exceptional wedding location. The attention to detail and quality of service provided was second to none, and I can’t wait for my next visit there in August.
The Civil Ceremony was held in The Barford Room
The Bride and Bridegroom were Rachel and Gareth who, along with their parents, Sue and Steve, Shirley and Terry, had planned a really unique wedding. I provided ceremony music, and then music for the drinks out on the terrace, wedding breakfast, and of course the evening party. I also acted on their behalf as Wedding Compere and helped direct everyone throughout the day.
I staged, what I like to call, Grand Entrances for all the members of the Wedding party as they entered the wedding breakfast. Then they had a table quiz during the meal and I announced the answers and the winning table before I introduced the Speeches, including a very funny speech from the 3 Best Men.

Where did that week go!
I’ve had a couple of meetings with clients, spent time with other fine Hampshire based DJ’s and had a breakfast with a new group of Wedding suppliers.
Now, finally, we are the day before Rachel and Gareth’s wedding. I’ve just had a quick word with the Bride and now I’m playing through the beautiful music she has selected with her fiancé for their ceremony. The venue is fabulous, the couple are really lovely, I can’t wait!

We’ve got something new to share with our visitors this weekend, so come and say hello.
So, on Sunday we took our third trip over to the charming village of Rockbourne, this time for a party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 4th anniversary of Kerry’s reign at the Rose & Thistle. The whole village was adorned in red, white and blue, and was possibly responsible for the national bunting shortage!
The village had events throughout the day and we arrived at the pub just before 4pm to be set up for 5pm it was good to see people everywhere already in festive spirits. Basket Case, the band for the evening, arrived shortly afterwards and were all set by the time the bar and gardens really started to fill up. Despite the weather not being as kind to us as it had on previous visits the atmosphere was brilliant.
Basket Case played 2 sets with a short break to enjoy their super – as I said yesterday, those pork baps were the best I’ve ever tasted! I’ll do another post all about the band somewheb in the coming days, suffice it to say for now that they ROCKED!
To be honest, they were so good I had no idea how I was going to follow them! I needn’t have worried, a mix of recent dance hits with plenty of classics kept the dance-floor packed. Kerry, our charming host, and Bridget hosted their dance-off and, as usual, experienced considerable difficulty in getting people to step back as they whittled down the entrants to the final winners.
We concentrated on up-lighting the marquee and used a couple of other effects lights on the floor and ceiling, as the evening went on it looked really great. I also decided to use the new DJ booth screen again which looked great despite the fact it was a bit wonky on the lawn of the pub garden.
Everyone was so welcoming and kind, these people really know how to party and we very much hope to be invited back to celebrate Kerry’s fifth anniversary next year. If you are looking for somewhere different to visit I can wholeheartedly recommend finding your way out to Rockbourne and The Rose & Thistle.
Shattered!
Great night last night at the Rose & Thistle. The band, Basket Case were awesome. The pork baps were the best I’ve ever had – the crackling was … words cannot describe how good. Kerry certainly knows how to give a party. The party people were fantastic, thanks to the family and friends who came. So, even though the weather was not on our side a good time was had! I’ll blog more about the evening later in the week.
Joe and I were listening to Radio 1 on the way home and Ally McCrae with on with his “introducing” show ,playing lots of really great Scottish new music. Here’s one track that I thought was worth tracking down ~
