Mood Lighting

Maybe you’ve heard it called uplighting, maybe you’ve never heard of it before, but mood lighting is very popular and is the basis of my current light show. Basically we just use lights to throw colours up the wall to create the atmosphere. Usually the evening starts with the lights on one colour, for example the wedding theme colour, and then once the party gets going they all start to flash or change colour in a display.

Here are a couple fo pictures from last Saturday’s wedding at New Place

This first picture shows the room as it was seen by the guests when they were invited in for the evening party. The colour I used matched the sashes on the chair covers. Please note the booth on the right of the picture – that is my play-out stand, no nasty big pile of boxes, all very tidy and complimentary to the decor in the room.

In this picture you can see the lights on the wall had all gone to a lighter blue green at the moment the picture was taken. If you look back through my posts here and check out my website you will see pictures with lots of different colours.

This can be taken to much greater lengths and whole rooms can be lit in this way. If you’d like to know more just let me know 🙂

Music For The Bridal Party Entrance

One of the services I offer is music for the Wedding Ceremony. By using a professional quality P.A. system we can move emotions and create a far more dramatic moment than just by pushing the play button on a c.d. player or an iPod. We plan the timings for the various members of the Bridal Party to enter so that when the Bride finally appears in the doorway, and makes her way to the registrar’s table and her Bridegroom, the song is at it’s peek ~ this can be really powerful.

You can have any music you want at a civl ceremony as long as it doesn’t mention God. I can talk you through the process of selecting your music and I can edit your songs to make sure they have the maximum effect ~ it’s all part of the service.

Saturday was a prime example where everything was planned and the family and friends were visibly moved by Bridal Party entrance. What a beautiful, powerful song …

Karen’s 40th Party

Last Saturday I hosted Karen’s 40th party at the Totton Sports Club. This was the second party I’ve done for Karen and her family and it’s always a pleasure to spend time with them.

Totton Sports club really is a lovely venue and as always the team there did everything just right.

Yet again I was blown away by some really great dancing from many of the guests, there was a lot of modern jive and even some line dancing going on!

Karen is an X-Box gamer and she had a fabulous cake made by Cakes by Donna

Thinking about the future …

I’m just back from a week away with my wonderful wife in Ibiza. We had a great time chilling out and just taking time to think. I finally got to experience Cafe Del Mar and a beautiful San Antonio sunset.

The weekend before our holiday I was at BPM, the UK’s trade show for DJ’s at the NEC, where I saw lots of lovely shiny new toys and sat in on many very interesting seminars and I also attended a workshop hosted by my good friend and coach Derek Pengelly. One of the BPM seminars was hosted by show organiser, and again good friend, Mark Walsh who spoke about the state of the DJ industry and how we are perceived by the general public. The truth is that people still think of DJ’s and mobile disco’s as scruffy blokes in dirty jeans with piles of untidy gear, just Google mobile DJ and look at the images section – it’s horrible. Derek also touched on the image of the DJ in his workshop.

Now I’ve had these next 2 pictures for a few weeks and I’ve agonised over sharing them with you, but I feel I must just so that I can say that I care and I would never do this to a client, and all the DJ’s I know would never do this to a client either, BUT there are still people out there who are calling themselves DJ’s who think this is acceptable – so here goes …

This picture was taken on Friday 28th September, less than a month ago, at a function in Wigan …

Even scarier is this next one – taken on my birthday (17th September) at a very good local venue that I’ve played at, this was a midweek wedding. I don’t know the DJ concerned personally and I’ve blurred out the name board as I don’t want to start a witch-hunt. The rest of the room looked beautiful, the tables were dressed and the chairs had covers with sashes. How can anyone think this is acceptable!

So, it’s been a crazy few weeks – I have no idea what the coming years hold for the UK mobile DJ industry, but I know there’ll be plenty more beautiful sunsets especially off the west coast of Ibiza.

Katy & Mike

You may well remember I posted a few weeks ago about Katy and Mike’s wedding, well here’s my quick video of the day.

They were married in church and I was waiting at their reception venue with music and hosting right through to their brilliant party They had included some brilliant touches in a truly unique day.

Abba’s Angels

Thursday’s Wedding Fair

Yesterday was the Autumn Southampton Guildhall Wedding Fair.

It was great to see lots of our friends exhibiting – I’ll talk more about them tomorrow. This time we were joined by my good friend, fellow Party Host and DJ, Gary Evans. Gary brought his Bride and Groom chairs along and here are one of our happy couples – Charlotte and Simon, who are getting married next year.

I also hosted the fashion show which this time not only featured some fabulous gowns but also tribute act Abba’s Angels – more to follow 🙂
