See you there!

Saturday Night @ The Concorde Club

This Saturday 10th September I’m back at The Concorde Club.

It’s members and their guests – so if you aren’t a member but you know one, why not suggest a night out. I’ll be around just after 9, starting around 10 and playing through ’til 2am Sunday, with a great mix of club classics, recent floor-fillers, and requests.

ALSO, the very excellent Eddie Hailwood will be in the Moldy Fig next door singing Jazz and Swing classics in the Sinatra, Buble style. So why not check out Eddie first – especially if you are looking for a Wedding singer.

How far in advance?

How far in advance should you book your Wedding entertainment?

A very good question, and one that’s asked in the latest edition of You & Your Wedding magazine. They have an interesting Grooms Special section with help on all kinds of topics including suits, stags and speeches, and they also address recruiting the band and/or DJ.

The basic conclusion is book early, most people book about a year in advance and if you leave it under 3 months you really are cutting it close! After some of the posts I’ve made in the last week it appears many people don’t have this information!

Sally’s Birthday Party

I had a brilliant time on Friday night at Sally’s birthday party. The event was held in the upstairs room at The Hythe Club, with a relatively small crowd consisting of close family and friends – what a lovely group of people they were too.

Karen, Sally’s daughter, first phoned me back in June when we were on our holiday in Majorca. We arranged a meeting when I got back, and Sally and Karen told me all about the music they’d like and we talked about how the evening would run. When the party finally happened it all went very smoothly and both Karen and her brother Steven made short speeches before Sally thanked everyone and cut her fabulous cake.

There were lots of great dancers who showed us some very impressive moves, Sally and her friends also demonstrated some fine line-dancing, and there was lots of singing along to a mix of music from the fifties and sixties right up to date.

Special thanks to Grandson Freddie, who helped me out all evening and who led the singing of Happy Birthday.

Martin & Sarah

On Friday it was my pleasure to DJ for Martin and Sarah’s wedding at the delightful Royal Hotel in Winchester. It was my first time at the hotel, and we were in the Darials Room on the first floor which has a separate dance area in a converted loft which is up a few steps.

Martin and Sarah were married in the nearby Winchester Cathedral. Martin’s family are from Germany and the couple went to great lengths to ensure translations were made throughout the day. They also provided me with an extensive playlist of music in English and German which I mixed in with requests from their guests who certainly had the loft rocking!

All Change ~ oops!

So here’s what’s happened …
The new website is up and looking great – thanks everyone for your feedback and support – so then I go and spend a lot of money to switch to the Pioneer play-out system, improve the sound with a new, more compact and less intrusive speaker system, and change the basic look of the show to be even more elegant and discrete … making many of the photo’s on the new website out of date – clever huh!

Seriously, I’ve been working on a more compact show for a while, and now that alternative is available, so you have a choice. I can now provide a set-up which takes up less space and looks less like a traditional disco set-up, or my original show which looks larger and more imposing.

Here’s the new set-up at the Royal Winchester Hotel

and here’s what we had before at the Moorhill House Hotel

It may not look an awful lot different, basically the new stand is about 2/3rd’s of the size and looses the overhead bar. You’ll get to see more in future posts, and over the coming weeks I’ll hopefully get some more professional photos for the website. Any questions ~ just get in touch.

Our new website …

Our new website is now live ~ it’s unique, it’s elegant, and it’s fun!

Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project, for all the testimonials, pictures, and suggestions. Hopefully the site will evolve as we move on, so please keep your contributions coming.

I’d particularly like to thank Martin from VV Web Solutions for all his hard work – great job, thanks.

Saturday 9th July ~ The Concorde Club

Sorry there hasn’t been much activity here over recent weeks – it’s a long story, but basically I’ve been busy, very busy … Oh and I did have a holiday! I’ll try and rectify that over coming weeks.

I’m delighted to say I’m back at the legendary Concorde Club in Eastleigh tonight. It’s a members and their guests night, so if you are a member, or know someone who is, why not get a group together and come and say hello. I’ll be “in the bunker” from 9:30, and I’ll expect you to dance from 10 through ’til 2am.

Come and say hello.

Wedding Tips

We are now well into the wedding season and I’ve had a very busy last couple of months. Seeing so many couples dreams becoming reality in such a short period of time is a real joy, it highlights so many great things but also occasionally throws up one or two issues that could have been addressed at the planning stage.

As I’ve said before, people don’t always talk to the DJ until after they’ve booked almost everything else. This is a shame because DJ’s see a lot of weddings and have lots of good advice to offer. I did a couple of tips videos – I will get some more done soon. If you are planning your wedding give me a call and book you free, no-obligation, chat and I’ll help you with far more than just the music.

Here are my two tips videos …

and number two on choosing your venue …

Pioneer Control Freaks ~ Video 2 ~ The Unboxing

Here’s the second video in our Control Freaks series. Again, it is probably only of interest to other DJ’s and gadget-junkies.

It was filmed on Saturday morning straight after the last one.

This video is for DJ’s and anyone interested in the new Pioneer DDJ Serato Itch controller. The Party DJ have been loaned a Pioneer DDJ-S1 for 14 days and see what it does and what it can do for us as part of the Pioneer Control Freak promotion.

We found out about this promotion from Jonathan, the DJ Tutor at www.djtutor.com
DJ Tutor is a fabulous resource for DJ’s of all abilities from beginners through to professionals with product reviews, tips, business advise and competitions from Jonathan and his friends around the World.

So, on Saturday 4th June 2011 at just after 8am, a courier delivered two packages – this video is the unboxing of that delivery. It’s video two in the series – more to follow.
