What to look for in your wedding suppliers

With the Autumn wedding fair season in full flow, I wanted to remind you what to look for in your wedding suppliers.

Here are three basic steps as I pointed out in this video from back in 2015 Choosing Your Team (click here)

1 Make sure they are actually a business and can deliver what they promise

2 Make sure they have any insurances and/or legal certification required

3 Make sure you like them … in fact I want to go one step further. Look for people who LOVE what they do! Yes it’s a business and they need to fulfil the criteria above, but there are some of us who really love what we do and will always try and go above and beyond what is expected of us.

Get out to two or three wedding fairs, meet suppliers, ask questions and listen to the advice they give you. Find out how long they’ve been doing their thing and try to get a sense of how they feel about it. Many wedding fairs have new businesses exhibiting – can they deliver on their promises?

This coming Sunday, 16th September, I’m exhibiting a The Hampshire Wedding Group event at Winchester Guildhall. Looking back with Meghann and Chris

This is the latest in the “Looking Back” series of videos and this time it’s back to March 2013 for Meghann and Chris’ wedding at Winchester Guildhall.

They had their ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening party in the King Charles Hall with drinks in the Wintonian Room and photos and a balloon release in the gardens next door.

Meghann & Chris ~ Winchester Guildhall ~ 9th March 2013

I always knew Meghann and Chris’ wedding was going to be a special day from the first time we met. As we all know the weather this year so far hasn’t been very kind to us, but yet again everything just came right when it needed to.

The ceremony took place at 3:30 in the King Charles Hall at Winchester Guildhall and when Meghann entered with Peter her dad to Take That’s ‘Greatest Day’ the sun was streaming through the windows.

Following their ceremony we adjourned to the Wintonian Room for drinks and canapes with a trip out to the gardens next door for photos.

Their wedding breakfast was served back in the King Charles Hall which was transformed into a wonderful dining area. I have to say the team at Winchester Guildhall, managed by Helen, were excellent and were very helpful at all times, as were the caterers Beales Gourmet Caterers managed by Mahmoud. Everything really was lovely.

The evening party started with a very special First Dance. Meghann, with the help of friend Matt, had recorded her own version of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ as can be heard on my video below. Next Meghann had a dance with her dad Peter and then Chris danced with his mum Kim, and it was great to see them all so relaxed sharing special moments together.

We had a lot of fun throughout the evening, we played ‘Getting To Know You’ with the newlyweds, Megahnn threw her bouquet and the dance floor was busy all night. Meghann and Chris had a “Don’t You Dare” list of songs which included Gangnam Style but they relented on that particular track under enormous pressure from their guests. There was even a bit of 5-6-7-8 action!

At about midnight everybody joined Meghann and Chris on the dance floor one last time for the final few songs and then friends and family formed a guard of honour to see them off to The Wanted’s ‘Glad You Came’ – what a great day!

Sorry I haven’t posted for a few days, it’s been a little mad here at Party DJ Towers!

Last Sunday, as mentioned previously, was the Wedding Fair at Winchester Guildhall. I’d forgotten just how wonderful the rooms there are. I’ve played for some great couples there in the past and had some fabulous parties. More information about weddings at Winchester Guildhall can be found here.

As well as meeting lots of lovely couples I also had a chance to meet a few suppliers I hadn’t talked with before. I’m always on the lookout for new gist ideas and I was particularly taken with the engraved bottles and giftware that Joe and Ria, from Beekhof Trading, had on display.

I was also very impressed with the Brandywine Trio. William, Paul and Sam played a brilliant mix of jazz standards from the fifties right up to date. If you are looking for some quality guitar-led jazz I’d strongly suggest you check these guys out.
