Maybe next year?

Sorry it’s been a few weeks since I posted a blog – maybe next year I’ll be more organised and focused! In my defence, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes!

In fairness, I have been busy writing my weekly “Love, Laughter & Happily Ever After” emails which has now been running for 11 weeks – if you want to receive it please email paul@thepartydj.co.uk – and there have been lots of meetings and work going on behind the scenes.

Normally at this time of year I go to the ProMobile Conference to recharge my batteries and find my focus for the year ahead. This year the Conference is “resting” to come back bigger and better in 2018. Of course back in April I attended and spoke at The ‘DJ Think Tank’ (click here to see my previous blog) and since them I’ve had a few ideas forming. Last week I met with Deon, my website designer, from Deon Design (click here) to run through a few things and, even as I write this blog, messages are going back and forth between us on developing and changing my site.

You may know that I’m a member of Toastmasters International, the Worldwide organisation set up to help people become more effective communicators and leaders. Last weekend the Toastmasters International District 91 (UK South) Spring Conference was held in Southampton so I took the weekend off to attend. The theme for the Conference was “The Mayflower ~ Discovering New Worlds” and the delegates were encouraged to follow in the steps of the Pilgrim Fathers and step out of our comfort zones and embrace change.

Among the speakers were Mike Storkey, the International President of TMI, who was born in Wales but emigrated to Australia many years ago and Jamaican born American Mark Brown who is a former World Champion of Public Speaking and is an Emmy Award nominated inspirational speaker. These two gentlemen were great examples of what can be achieved with the help of Toastmasters International. There were also many excellent workshops and presentations and I came away full of great ideas having made many new friends. To be honest, the only thing that disappointed me about the Conference was that more people didn’t take the opportunity to attend. It was local to me this time, just 5 miles down the road, but I got a lot from it so maybe next year I’ll go again.

If you’d like to find out more about Toastmasters International and how they can help you with public speaking, please let me know and I’ll tell you all about it.

So, I have some new ideas that I’m working on. I’ll be honest, a few things are really frustrating and sometimes even annoying me at the moment and you may get a blog on some of these in the coming weeks, but more importantly …
Coming soon, some great new stuff to help couples make the most of their wedding day – stay tuned 😉

Maybe next year I WILL be EVEN MORE organised and focused!

I'm On A Mission To Stamp Out Boring Weddings

If you regularly read this blog you may be aware that I joined Toastmasters International earlier this year. I go to the Hamwic Speakers group meetings at Tauntons College in Southampton. I’d recommend Toastmasters International to anyone who wants to improve their speaking skills, it’s a very supportive organisation. There are T.I. groups all over the World, so there’s bound to be one in fairly close proximity to you. If you’d like to find out more feel free to contact me directly (paul@thepartydj.co.uk) or click here to go to their website.

Yesterday I gave my second talk and it was all about my mission to stamp out boring weddings. I had to speak for between 5 and 7 minutes. The notes for this speech were …
“The speaker is to present a talk that is organised in a manner that leads the audience to a clearly defined goal.”
Ce suggested that I should consider videoing it, so here it is! I’ve edited in a few pictures to make it more interesting.

“I’m On A Mission To Stamp Out Boring Weddings” basically covers why I think the spark is missing from some modern weddings and how I use my “WOW Weddings” formula to create something more personal and unique. Of course “My Mission” also includes improving and developing my skills and T.I. is just one of the ways I try and do this.

April Newsletter

Happy month! Welcome to my April Newsletter, a new feature for The Party DJ Blog.

Pauls-Guarantee-badge-2WEBSITE
March saw the launch of My Promise (CLICK HERE) ~ my unique guarantee for my clients. This is one of several tweaks I have planned for my website. I’m working closely with the brilliant (and he didn’t even tell me to say that) Deon Design on more great content.

You should be able to view my brochure on the site soon and a new booklet I’ve compiled of Real Weddings. Both are jam-packed full of great ideas to help create amazing weddings.

TRAINING
I started March with an advanced microphone technique course with Randy Bartlett after the ProMobile Conference. Getting good training and practice isn’t easy, especially locally and, on the advice of a couple of my colleagues based in Abingdon and West London, I’ve joined Hamwick Speakers ~ the local branch of Toastmasters International. This isn’t a group in the British red coated toastmasters tradition, it’s a speaking skills organisation with branches all over the World. If you’d like to know more about Toastmasters International please let me know.

MORE VIDEOS
Tomorrow I’ll publish Episode 19 in my ABC/123 Wedding tips video series. This one is on creating a great atmosphere at your Wedding Breakfast.

Episode 20 should be out next week with some more great advice on Ice Breakers to help you with that brilliant Wedding Breakfast. Then it’s on to some advice on Speeches.

Also this month expect a video on avoiding wedding stress. This is in response to me asking what topics you would like me to cover following on from “What If It Rains On My Wedding Day” (CLICK HERE) and “What If Nobody Dances At My Wedding” (CLICK HERE).
