The best-laid plans ~ Walk All Over Cancer major hiccup!
According to the famous saying (attributed to Robert Burns) “The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft a-gley” which has become more commonly known as “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry” and looking back at the last few days I can certainly vouch for that!
Everything was going so well last time I posted, I was full of optimism and convinced I had the “Walk All Over Cancer” challenge nailed – well they do also say “pride comes before a fall”.
Thursday, Day 15 Walk All Over Cancer didn’t start well. I had a bad nights sleep and woke up in pain – I won’t go into detail but basically the day was a write-off, I didn’t leave the house and managed a total of 326 steps. So all of my pride and talk of banking steps is gone and I was back to catching up again. The best-laid plans …
Friday Day, 16 and I felt better but still very weak. I went out in the morning with the intention of another walk later but as we had a trip to The Guildhall booked to see comedian “Jonathan Pie” I decided against it and stayed warm inside.
Saturday Day 17 we knew snow was definitely coming back. There were a few flurries in the morning and everything went very grey and cold then in the late afternoon it really started. It was horrible out – I’m doing this challenge for all sorts of reasons but I wasn’t prepared to venture out in conditions which were never going to bring me any joy!
Sunday Day, 18 we awoke to find things actually looking as snowy as they’d been at the beginning of the month. I didn’t really get the chance to schedule a walk because life got in the way – the picture below was taken from the back seat of my brother-in-law, Martyn’s car as we went to collect my nieces and daughter from her hen weekend (more about that in future blogs). I did a little bit of walking and some snow clearing but opted for the warmth of home for the rest of the day.
Today, Monday Day 19 I started to put my battle back on track, I didn’t do the full 10,000 but I made a big dent in it. hopefully tomorrow I can start to put things right again. My walk took me down Fletchwood Lane again and through to Woodlands Road then back – and, another confession to make … my phone died again. I think it was a combination of the cold and streaming radio that did it – rest assured I won’t make that mistake again (yes, I have said that before!).
The picture above is of wild geese resting in a field – below is a zoomed in picture. Geese have a “plan b” – but that’s another story for another day.
PLEASE NOTE the events of these last few days proved to me once again it’s essential to have a “plan B”. I’m currently over 20,000 steps behind schedule but I still have plenty of time to complete the Walk All Over Cancer challenge – and, let’s be honest, the World won’t end if I don’t, but a couple of problems compounded and I had to change my plans. The same could happen to you in the run-up to your wedding or event, having a plan B is essential because The best-laid plans of mice and men, Brides and Bridegrooms can often go awry.
