Never Too Much ~ WOW Countdown ~ Day 6
Never Too Much … so, what IS too much?
The title of this post was inspired by the Luther Vandross song (I’ll post it at the end of this) – rather than never too much I’m thinking WHAT is too much? This relates to activities and also to “stuff” … and it’s not easy to explain, but I’ll give it a go.
Sometimes it’s hard to know when to stop adding things into your day. A visit to a wedding fair or a flip through a magazine will show you lots of things you’ve never thought of that you could include in your big day – so how do you decide what to have?
One of my favourite ideas right at the start of planning a wedding is to try and describe your wedding in 3 or 4 words – so when you are looking at all these different ideas do they fit with the wedding you are trying to create?
As far as activities, on thing I suggest is trying to spend a day “at your wedding”! OK, that sounds bonkers but what I’m trying to say is take a day when you have nothing planned and try and fit your wedding into it – for example …
What time are you planning your ceremony? Imagine having breakfast and getting ready for that time.
What are you having in your ceremony? Walk through the ceremony – just at home, it will probably last 30 to 45 minutes.
… then it’s your drinks reception and photo’s, your wedding breakfast, speeches, etc.
If you have any other weddings to attend or have been closely involved with someones else’s big day you’ll have a better grip on this. If you come to my “Creating Your Wedding” evening you’ll hear me talk through the day and I’ll tell you more about what to expect.
Also some couples just try to shoe-horn in too much stuff. It’s not necessarily a problem, but some things get lost or missed. There is a great temptation to go bargain hunting (especially on eBay) and buy extra stuff. So, I’ve been at weddings where guests are invited to sign a guest book, a photo, a finger print tree and a heart dropbox or other activities – these things need to be organised and it’s a great idea to allocate roles to members of your wedding party, for example your ushers could take the guest book around the tables during the early part of the evening. Don’t just buy loads of things and expect them to be completed, think about how you can make the most of them.
Please let me know if you’d like to reserve spaces at Creating Your WOW Wedding on Tuesday 15th November – spaces are limited. It’s £10 per couple (and any guests you want to bring) – all proceeds go to the Countess Mountbatten Hospice and there is a full money-back guarantee.
To finish things off, here’s that 1982 hit from Luther …
