This was probably the hardest month of the year to find new music. As we’ve mentioned before, loads of stuff has been released since the end of the summer ready for the autumn and Christmas, so there hasn’t been much that’s really new. When I first heard this, what seems like ages ago, I thought it was just a Lady Gaga copy! But it’s really grown on me and every time it comes on the radio I just have to turn it up!

Kaskade & Deadmau5 ~ Move For Me
This passed me by when it first got released at the beginning of the year – goodness knows why, I love it!

Lily Allen ~ Who’d Have Known
Thank goodness for Lily – another fabulous release from the album “It’s Not Me, It’s You”. It’s a really beautiful song, and then … there’s the video!

John Mayer ~ Who Says
One of my favourite recording artists is back with a new album and here’s the first single released in the States. Nothing to do with disco’s – just great!

Calvin Harris ~ Flashback
Yet another brilliant tune from Calvin Harris. I can’t believe how good this album is, and how much he’s moved on from “I Created Disco”.
Now this is really freaky … compare and contrast this video with the John Mayer one above!

October has been a long, hard month for us with a lots of stuff going on. There’s been a lot of new music on the radar with lots of stuff being released ready for Christmas, here’s a few that have caught our ears.

Tinchy Stryder ~ You’re Not Alone (Red Top Remix)
Another big hit from Tinchy following up on the successes of ‘Number 1’ and ‘Never Leave You’

Jason Derulo – Watcha Say (Wawa Remix)
Debut single from Derulo that has been big in the States and is sure to follow over here. The video is the regular mix not the Wawa remix.

Sidney Samson – Riverside
Great dance tune that I included in my recent ten minute mix, however the foul language is maybe a bit much :S

Jay Sean Ft. Lil Wayne – Down (Jason Nevins Remix)
New single from his 3rd album has gone straight into the number 1 spot in America. It seems to be all my mates favourite tune at the moment.

Electrixx – Tetris
First heard this whilst listening to a popular entry into the October ten minute mix competition. I had to download it straight away.

Black Eyed Peas ~ Meet Me Halfway
Third single from the album and it’s another smash. From the opening bars it just builds and builds.

Cheryl Cole ft Will I Am ~ 3 Words
The title track of the album. I first heard it when Cheryl was on the Chris Moyles show and it’s her favourite track from the album. I can’t wait to hear the remixes.

Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys ~ Empire State Of Mind
I know I’m a bit late on this one but every time it comes on the radio I just have to turn it up. This is an epic single in every sense – pure quality.

Young Soul Rebels ~ I Got Soul
Loads of the new kids of British R&B get together to support the War Child charity and cover … a Killers track! It shouldn’t work, but it does.

The Jackson 5 ~ I Want You Back (Dimitri From Paris Supa Frunk Brake Mix) from the Remix Suite Pack II

Another month has flown by and Summer looks like it might have finally finished. This time of year there are lots of new albums and therefore loads of new stuff to listen to. It suddenly dawned on us that we can post youtube links so that you can check out our selections. Sometimes you’ll get the official video, sometimes it will just be the sound recording.

Duck Sauce ~ aNYway
What an awesome tune from A-Track and Armand Van Helden under their Duck Sauce identity. A brilliant blend of old and new. If you look at youtube you can find a video of them talking about their joint project.

Chipmunk ~ Oopsy Daisy
Ok, I know I’m not 15 but this is a fine track. He recently got his A levels and left college, oh and also won the Best Hiphop Act at the MOBO’s this week!

Chicane ~ Hiding All The Stars
Another great dance track from Chicane featuring the hook from Gary Numan’s 1979 number 1 Cars.

Lady Gaga ~ Love Game (Chew Fu Mix)
Let’s have some, fun this beat is sic, I wanna take a ride on your disco stick – yes it’s Gaga with added Marilyn Manson!

Example ~ Watch The Sun Come Up
Originally I thought this must have been something to do with Just Jack – but it’s Example, another London boy he describes his style as Dysfunctional Electro Pop. This reminds me of staying up all night, sitting in a hired MGB, on St Ouens bay in Jersey with my wife when we first met in 1980 – but that’s another story!

Taio Cruz ~ Break Your Heart (Casette Club Mix)
This track is the current number 1 so it has obviously done something right. I like the single version which I’ve got here for you, but as its me and I love remixes, my favourite which is the Casette Club Mix.

Deadmau5 Feat. Rob Squire ~ Ghosts N Stuff
When I first heard Deadmau5 this track was just a fantastic instrumental. With the added vocals of Pendulum’s Rob Squire, the track totally changes but is still great!

Pendulum ~ I’m Not Alone (Live)
I remember seeing this on the Glastonbury highlights and loved it. Recently, my friends began to talk about it and I realised just how good it is. The Calvin Harris original was also one of our favourites.

Tiesto and Sneaky Sound Sysytem ~ I Will Be Here
This is just a brilliant dance tune. So catchy

The Veronicas ~ 4ever (Jason Nevins Mix)
Sounds incredibly like the last Pink single but I really like this!

Summer is nearly over – I think it was on a Wednesday two weeks ago – so, Christmas starts tomorrow.

Here are our selections from this months play-lists.

1. Mstrkrkft Ft. John Legend ~ Heartbreaker (Laidback Luke Remix)
An incredibly catchy tune. This has to be my favourite of all the remixes.

2. Sub Focus ~ Rock It
I Don’t usually listen to much DnB but his track is just great. Its really powerful and in your face.

3. Bloc Party ~ One More Chance
You just have to love the piano in this. This song is much ‘dancier’ than previous Bloc Party and I like it 😀

4. Nneka ~ Heartbeat (Chase & Status Remix)
I can’t really explain what I like about this, just good I guess. 😉

5. Calvin Harris ~ You Used To Hold Me
I’m a big fan of Calvin Harris and this is my favourite track from the new album. It really gets me nodding!

1. Athlete ~ Superhuman Touch.
The first single from the new album “Black Swan” which has finally arrived. The wife an I won tickets to see them at an “Up Close And Personal” showcase with Wave 105 at the Soul Cellar – brilliant (as always). The whole family are looking forward to seeing them at the Uni in November.

2. Jordin Sparks ~ S.O.S. (Let The Music Play) Jason Nevins Mix.
Another fine single from Jordin Sparks featuring “Let The Music Play” which was a monster club and chart hit for Shannon in 1983.

3. Just Jack ~ The Day I Died.
Brilliant, beautiful and very sad.

4. Raphael Saadiq ~ Never Give You Up.
Good grief, it’s 2009 and people are still making great soul music. If you think you’ve heard a new Marvin Gaye single featuring Stevie Wonder, this was it.

5. Whitney Houston ~ Million Dollar Bill.
Opening track from the new album “I Look To You”.

Flip! Just where have the last seven months gone.
At least I got a couple more posts of Joe’s work into our blog this month.
I tease him all the time about how he’s turning into me – this months is no different.
His five are all tracks I’d be happy to include in my picks for the month.
So here we go again …

Joe
1. Frankmusik ~ Confusion Girl (Riff & Rays Club Mix)
Entering the charts at number 29, the single version is a fairly good pop record, but I prefer the Riff & Rays remix!
2. Mr Hudson feat. Kanye West ~ Supernova
After helping to produce Kanye West’s most recent album, Mr Hudson is repaid with vocals for his fantastic new single. There is a Calvin Harris remix available however, it just doesn’t appeal to me – how strange?!?!
3. Dizzee Rascal ~ Holiday
The new single from Dizzee Rascal is likely to be a big as Bonkers and Dance Wiv Me. I did like the old Dizzee Rascal hip hop but I love the new electronic dance produced by Calvin Harris.
4. Calvin Harris – Ready For The Weekend (High Contrast Remix)
On the subject of Calvin Harris, this is his new single, due for release on the 10th of August. I haven’t heard much of the single version yet, but the High Contrast remix is brilliant!
5. Akon – We Don’t Care
One of the less successful single releases from the album ‘Freedom’, I personally really like this track. It gets me nodding!

1. Boogaloo ft Wiggy ~ Limbo Limbo
Finally managed to pick this up, I had to check back to see if I’d included it before. It’s a rework of Hear The Drummer Get Wicked with added dance steps by Wiggy who used to feature on Hitman & Her.
2. Lily Allen ~ 22
The latest offering from the It’s Not Me, It’s You album by the lovely Lily.
The chorus is fabulous. I thought it was called Day & Age because I was too lazy to check.
3. Recall 22 ~ Subimos Juntos
Uplifting instrumental for young people to go bonkers to on a beach somewhere.
4. Madonna Vs Dizzee ~ Holiday
I know Joe already put Dizzee’s Holiday in but I wanted it and this is a bit different. I’ve only heard it a couple of times but it’s a mash-up of Madonna’s 1983 classic with Mr Rascal.
5. John Barrowman ~ I Made It Through The Rain
If you don’t know why, I’m not going to tell you.
Let’s just say, just because I hope Chris gets to go to the pyjama party!

Hopefully this will be the first post of a batch over the next few days.  Joe’s been very busy with his mixes so I just need to sort out some links to get them on here.  In the meantime here’s our new tune selections for June.  As always they are in no particular order.

Joe picks …

1  Black Eyed Peas ~ I Gotta Feeling  The second single release off the new album – The E.N.D (The Energy Never Dies) I love the album, and particularly this track!

2  Lazzee Feat. Neverstore – Hold On (Stonebridge Remix)  I first heard this track on Friday Floor Fillers (a tradition in our household) and it instantly hit me as a favourite, it just had to be included in my latest ten minute mix

3  Kevin Rudolf – Welcome To The World  At first, this track sounded too much like ‘Let It Rock’ and I wasn’t a fan. But my opinion has changed and the similarities with the other single don’t bother me

4  The Saturdays – Work (Cahill Remix)  None of the Saturdays tracks have ever really interested me and the single version of ‘Work’ doesn’t either. However, the Cahill remix of this track picks up the pace turning into one of my current favourites

5  3OH!3 – Don’t Trust Me  Heard this on the radio recently and mentioned to a friend who was aware of it through the iPod game ‘Tap Tap Revenge.’ I listened/ played it a few times and its grown on me

Paul’s choices …

1  Pitbull ~ I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)  Featuring a sample from Chicago’s “Street Player” recorded in 1979, that was also used by The Bucketheads on “The Bomb”.  I think this is a great summer tune.

2  Athlete ~ Summer Sun  One of our favourite bands are back and we’ve got tickets to see them again.

3  T Ski Valley ~ Catch The Beat  Recently I’ve been back in touch with my old friend Stevie Q (on the left in the Riverboat shuffle picture below).  He’s always had an ear for a great tune and he hooked me up to this one.

4  Skytech ~ Cardboard Box  One of the joys of coming home late from a gig is finding new tunes on the radio – this was one of those.  Fits in nicely with the new Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 sound. 

5  Chicane ~ Poppiholla  Some will consider this to be sacrilegious – I think it’s brilliant.  The iconic Sigur Ros rack gets the dance-floor treatment from Chicane.

Sorry, sorry, sorry!  I could go on all day – the fact is, another month has flown by and I still haven’t posted anything else.  I’m going to try … but don’t hold your breath!

Here’s our selections for May of music that popped up on our radar, and it’s my turn to go first.

Paul’s selections ...

Cascada ~ Evacuate The Dancefloor  I really love the chorus – I mean I REALLY LOVE THE CHORUS!  I’m sure the rest will grow on me too.

Empire Of The Sun ~ We Are The People  The antipodeans MGMT, there are some great dance mixes.  Sounds like summer!

Carolina Liar ~ Show Me What I’m Looking For  I don’t know a lot about this band but, on this single, they sound like my kind of rock/pop.  Apparently the vocalist is American, the rest of the band are Swedish.

Basement Jaxx ~ Raindrops  Back in time for the festival season, this is a big floorfiller.

Paloma Faith ~ Stone Cold Sober  Sounds like it could be a new Amy Winehouse / Mark Ronson collaboration: it’s not, it’s Paloma Faith!

Joe’s choices

Star Pilots ~ In The Heat Of The Night   Upbeat dance hit that you just have to dance, nod or tap to 🙂

David Guetta Feat. Kelly Rowland ~ When Love Takes Over (Laidback Luke Remix)  This track is growing on me. The vocal is very powerful and this particular remix adds a wicked dance beat.

Soulja Boy ~ Kiss Me Thru The Phone  Been aware of this for a while but its only just hit me how great it is!

Flo Rida Feat. Wynter ~ Sugar  With the hook from ‘Blue’ by Eiffel 65, (a classic that remains legendary to this day) I didn’t believe that this track would do it justice. However, Flo Rida has made another fantastic tune!

DJ Laz ~ Move Shake Drop  First heard this at an under 18 clubbing night. It’s become a big hit amongst my mates and me.

April Selection

So, another month has flown by and it’s time for us to pick some tunes to share.

I let Joe choose first this month – that means he got a couple that I’d have liked (what a kind father I am!).  It’s also worth noting that some of our picks from March are still new releases and haven’t hit the UK Charts yet.

1. Black Eyed Peas ~ Boom Boom Pow   Great comeback song that is fun but still contains their usual attitude.

2. Ironik Ft Chipmunk & Elton John ~ Tiny Dancer (Delio D’Cruz vs. Paul Emanuel Remix)  Good rap and one of those songs that just gets in your head! This particular remix just makes it that better for the dance floor.

3. Tinchy Stryder Ft. Dappy ~ Number 1 (Bimbo Jones Remix)         Both Tinchy Stryder and N-Dubz have featured in my recent top 5’s.               Now they’ve made a track together that has been a big hit and reached number 1 in the charts. The Bimbo Jones mix just adds that extra something.

4. Eminem ~ We Made You   The first single from his new album ‘Relapse’. This track could be seen as either catchy or annoying and personally I like it.

5. The Prodigy ~ Warrior’s Dance  More fast paced beats in another intense track from the new album ‘Invaders Must Die’

1. Marmaduke Duke ~ Rubber Lover  Great pop with a great hook!

2. Evelyn Champagne King Vs Kid Cudi ~ Shame (At Nite) ~ a Party Ben Mashup   This is a wicked mix of one of my all time fav’s with a current hit – how awfully clever!

3. Agnes ~ Release Me (La Rush Remix)  I Love the hook but the single edit is too cheesy – even for me.  This mix works.

4. Little Boots ~ New In Town   Heralded, for quite a while, as the next big thing – from what I heard before I didn’t expect to like this – but I do.  File under pop.

5. Girls Aloud ~ Untouchable (Bimbo Jones Club Mix)  Does exactly what it says on the tin!

Just Jack       ~ Embers (Bimbo Jones Mix) The first time I heard this track I was a little disappointed because I loved the last album and this was not what I expected.  As time’s gone on I now love it – it’s brilliantly different!  The Bimbo Jones mix means it also works on the dancefloor – genius!

Calvin Harris ~ I’m Not Alone (Deadmau5 mix) Possibly the tune of 2009 … I feel the same way about this as I did about ‘Lola’s Theme’ by the Shapeshifters in 2004. The track has a really distict sound, which leads me on to …

Deadmau5 & Kaskade       ~ I Remember As my knowledge of ‘what’s hot now’ grows, I’m becoming more aware of the stuff that’s out there and about to explode.  Anyone reading this who really knows their stuff will know all about Deadmau5 – I knew a bit but now … well, you’ve just got to love this guy – oh how I wish I was 19 again!

Röyksopp ~ Happy Up Here … A wonderful riff that always brings a smile to my face (and goodness knows I need the help sometimes). As well as the original version there is also a wicked brass band version and I also have a terrific mash up with Janet Jackson’s ‘Pleasure Principle’ .

Metro Station ~ Shake It – pure power pop from a band featuring, son of Billy Ray and brother of Millie, Trace Cyrus.  In 1979 we had the Knack with My Sharonna, thirty years on my kids have Metro Station.

Joe’s choices …

K.I.G ~ Heads, Shoulders, Kneez & Toez – this track was requested for my first gig and when I first heard it, I wasn’t sure. However, its grown on me and I’m sure its gonna hit high in the charts.

Asher Roth ~ I Love College – A very laid back tune with good lyrics. I hope college is as good as he describes! 😉

Chipmunk ~ Chip Diddy Chip – This is the first big single from the 18 year old London MC. Could he be the next Dizzee…

Dizzee Rascal ~ Bonkers – This track may not yet be familiar to many as it isn’t yet released. It’s a great tune, could it be as big as Dance Wiv Me?

The Killers ~ Spaceman (Sander Van Doorn Remix)– An interesting dance mix of The Killers latest hit. Love it 🙂

Doman & Gooding ~ Runnin’  Great use of the hook from Armand Van Helden’s “You Don’t Even Know Me” which is one of my all-time favourites.

Jordin Sparks ~ One Step At A Time  Such a very pretty song from the 2007 American Idol winner.

All-American Rejects ~ Gives You Hell  Because sometimes great pop is enough.

September ~ Can’t Get Over  Classic handbag anthem

Taylor Swift ~ Love Story (Jason Nevin’s or Digital Dog Remix)  One of my many guilty pleasures is female Country Music singers. Taylor Swift had a monster hit with Our Song, back in 2007, which I really  loved.  Now her songs are being remixed for the pop and dance floor markets.

Prodigy ~ Omen  Fantastic return, if you love Pendulum, you’ve gotta love The Prodigy

Eminem ft Dr Dre & 50 Cent ~ Crack A Bottle  3 rap legends coming together to make a great tune!

Daniel Merriweather ~ Change  First solo single from the vocalist for much of Mark Ronson’s material, gets better every time you hear it

N-Dubz ~ Strong Again  Hate to say it but a very catchy song. Does this make me a 15 year old stereotype? 🙂

Girls Aloud ~ The Promise (Flip & Fill Remix)  Up beat remix of their recent chart hit.
