Martin made my day

Martin made my day!

Martin made my day last Friday! As the weather was looking good, Ce and I decided to take a morning off and headed down to Boscombe to walk along the front to Bournemouth and back. We had just parked the car and were on our way down to the beach when I heard a message “ping” from my phone.

Hampshire wedding DJ

The message was from Martin who married Jen five years ago. I knew it was their anniversary and it was always intention to send them a message at some point in the day – we are still friends on FaceBook, but this was totally unexpected and it really made my day. In his message Martin mentioned a video I cobbled together for them. I had forgotten all about the video, I don’t do them now because the little recorder I used to use no longer works – having watched this I think I had better replace it. I always try and snap a few photos, some that I only share with the Bride and Bridegroom.

What a great day we had, full of amazing memories. I think it’s fair to say I have come a long way since then and spent thousands of pounds on training, but looking back it certainly proves to me that I have always strived to offer more.

I also think it’s worth mentioning that many couples book a photographer who leaves after the first dance – the ones I recommend often stay much later to capture the fun of the evening party!

I’m not sure if you can still get married at Marwell, I don’t think you can have your reception there any more which is a great shame. The Marwell Hotel is next door which is a another great wedding and reception venue.

Happy Monday ~ I Really Love What I Do

Happy Monday everyone, have I ever mentioned that I really love what I do!

I’ve just been taking a break from writing the WOW Countdown blogs and took a look at the wonderful card I received from Kelly & Neil over the weekend. I haven’t really posted much about this years weddings yet – it’s all been such a mad blur! Kelly and Neil’s wedding holds a special place in my heart because I’ve known him since he was a nipper, in fact he was The Party DJ for a while when I stopped DJ’ing to focus on other thing.

Kelly and Neil met while they were both working in Shanghai, Kelly is from Canada and they now live in Denmark … as you can imagine their wedding took a fair amount of organising! I was glad I was able to help with this.

Kelly and Neil chose the gorgeous Norton Park just north of Winchester for their celebration and it was perfect. The ceremony was held in The Hampshire Barn, then everyone went for drinks, canapés and photos by the Manor House. The wedding breakfast was back in The Hampshire Barn and then the evening party was held in The Norton Suite. I provided ceremony music, master of ceremonies and DJ’d alongside the excellent band Hitwave .

It was also the wedding where I finally got to work alongside the brilliant Az Rehman from Lemontree Photography. I can see why so many local photographers speak so highly of Az, he’s a lovely gentleman and his photography (as demonstrated by the pictures on this post) are absolutely wonderful.

I really love what I do

Here’s an excerpt from their message inside …

“Dear Mr T,

We can’t even begin to thank you enough, in this card, for everything you did to help us have the wedding of our dreams.

Your time and advice before the big day were invaluable, and your calm, patience, M.C’ing, organisation, DJ’ing and general ‘Paul-ness’ on the day brought everything together in a way that only you know how to do”

I’m so lucky to spend my time with lovely couples like Kelly and Neil at beautiful venues like Norton Park working along side great people like Az and Simon from Hitwave, and that’s why I really love what I do.

Gemma & Brian’s Wedding DJ Testimonial

Gemma & Brian’s testimonial is the third and final post in my series based on the support I’ve received for my nomination in The Hampshire Wedding Awards. Yesterday I discovered I’ve made it to the Finals which is incredible news.

Gemma & Brian’s wedding was held at the beautiful Audleys Wood Hotel near Basingstoke. Gemma and Brian found me following Kat’s review of her wedding there on Trip Advisor ~ to find out more about Kat and Gareth’s CLICK HERE.

I’ve really enjoyed my two visits to Audleys Wood, it’s part of the Handpicked Group of Hotels along with Rhinefield House and the standards are excellent.

Gemma & Brian were great fun to plan with, they already had lots of great ideas when we first met and I was able to help them create their dream celebration full of memorable moments and lots of fun.

So, here’s Gemma and Brian’s testimonial of Paul ~ The Party DJ

Hampshire Wedding DJ

“My husband and I got married on Sunday 12th June 2016 at Audley’s Wood Hotel in Basingstoke. We found Paul through another brides outstanding review of the personal service he provided for her wedding at the venue we were getting married at a few years before. I had been frantically looking for a DJ and was having no luck so when I stumbled across his brides review I had to contact her and ask for Pauls details – I am so glad I did!”

“I sent Paul an email and he replied right away, he sent me over a pack full of information of the service he provides for weddings to allow me to decide whether I wanted to meet with him for a chat and get a quote for our wedding. Reading through the unique and personal service Paul provides I had no doubt I wanted to meet him. He arranged a time which suited us and he happily offered to come to our house (which is a fair drive for Paul) so we could meet him face to face and discuss everything he would do for us on the day and to give us ideas as to how to make our wedding unique to us and different.”

gemma-brian

“I felt so at ease from the moment I met Paul, he is very warm and bubbly but also extremely calming – which is exactly what a bride needs when planning her big day as it is a stressful time! He tailored everything to how we wanted our day to go, asked us questions regarding what kind of feel we wanted the day to have, what our theme was, colour scheme etc so he could really understand who we are as individuals and exactly the kind of day we were trying to achieve. Paul gave us a quote and left it totally in our court as to whether we wanted to book him, he did not ask us to decide there and then, he gave us time to decide on our own. AT NO POINT did I feel at all pressured to book Paul for our wedding, however I had already decided in the first 60 seconds of meeting him I wanted him to be a part our of day!”

“I got in touch with Paul a few days later to ask him if we could go ahead with booking him for our wedding. We were all extremely delighted he was going to be such a huge part of our day. Paul was happy throughout the whole 18 months of planning our wedding for me to contact him with questions when I was booking other parts of our day to ensure we were getting exactly what we wanted and just generally for ideas on things we could incorporate on the day to make it extra special.”

audleys-wood-dj

“We met several times over the course of planning the wedding, nothing was too much hassle for Paul. He was like having our own wedding planner there on hand whenever we needed him, he came over to our house to sit down with a pack which he has created as part of his personalised service for us to fill out to ensure we would have everything we wanted on the day and that everything would run smoothly, helping us to plan all our timings for our big day as we did not have a wedding rehearsal. Just knowing Paul was there on hand to organise everything on the day so we did not have to think or worry about a thing and we could completely relax was such a relief!”

“We were a little stuck on music for our special dances so Paul sent us links and offered suggestions to help us so nothing became stressful. He created a face book group for our big day where we added all of our friends who were coming to the wedding and allowed them to post youtube links of their requests for the evening disco and he took everyones into consideration and mixed in some of his own music he felt would suit the theme! There wasn’t a moment the dance floor was empty and that was our biggest fear so he did a cracking job!! Everyone had a fantastic evening and loved the music! There was something for everyone!”

wedding-disco-audleys-wood

“On the day itself Paul was even more fantastic than I knew he would be. He was there from before all our guests arrived, he had all our suppliers contact numbers so he could contact them if anyone had not arrived at the time they said they would be so we did not have to worry about a thing! Everything was there on time and all set up and ready for our guests arriving! The whole day ran smoothly! It was absolutely perfect! There were no hiccups. Even when we had a downpour of rain this didn’t disturb the plans or throw anything out. We still had everything we had wanted incorporated into our day!”

“We wanted a relaxed feel to the day, we wanted our family and friends to enjoy themselves and feel at ease. Everyone who attended our wedding said thats exactly how they felt, and thats all thanks to Paul for making this happen! We have had SO many compliments from all our guests saying it was the best wedding they have ever been too. They loved all the special unique touches Paul added to our day and they just loved Paul as a person! He ensured he went round and spoke to all of our guests, got to know them, took the time to ensure everyone felt special and involved in our day (which as the bride and groom is difficult to do so just by Paul doing that just made it that bit more special!)”

dj-audleys-wood

“Our day would not have been as perfect as it was without Paul! He is outstanding at his profession and I never thought I would find someone who gives you so much time to help you make sure everything is spot on! All the little extras he provides are just absolutely fantastic and quite simply invaluable!”

“Our wedding was everything we had hoped and a million times more, and thats all thanks to Paul. I don’t know anyone who deserves an award more! I would recommend him to all our friends in the future for their weddings! He is world class!”

“We would just like to thank him again for his support and for being a part of our magical day.”

Gemma & Brian

Reading this now I feel truly humbled by Gemma & Brian’s kind words. I’m so lucky to be able to do this for my living, I get to spend my time helping couples like Gemma & Brian make the most of this special moment in their lives. Thank you to everyone for your support as always ~ mug of tea raised ~ Cheers!

A Couple of Comments I’ve Received

WOW Wedding Guy

It’s been a busy first couple of months of 2016 here at The Party DJ HQ with just one wedding but lots of wedding fayres and meetings. I wanted to share a couple of comments I’ve received in the last couple of weeks.

The first is from Moira who came to the “Creating Your WOW Wedding” evening I presented at Ampfield Golf Club back on 16th February.

“Thanks for a great event on Tuesday. We got some great tips and ideas from it, although for me the best bit was Neil thinking about the day and what it means as opposed to just an expensive party!”

Moira

I love that. Neil, Moira’s husband to be, is hopefully going next month’s evening for Bridegrooms, so he’ll be getting plenty more brilliant ideas to make his wedding unique, memorable and fun.

It’s at Ampfield again on Tuesday 8th March and is open to Bridegrooms and their Best Men and Ushers. Once again it’s free to attend but places must be reserved in advance ~ email paul@thepartydj.co.uk

The second quote is from Eli who married Jason on New Years Eve just a couple of months ago. She posted it on my FaceBook page after seeing my Blog about “Grand Entrances”.

“Loved this bit at ours, was a real highlight especially getting the rest of our crew involved”

Eli

I’ve just posted another video in the same series about “Extended Grand Entrances” ~ that’s where I introduce the other members of the Wedding Party. As Eli said, we did this at her wedding and it was so much fun!

These are two videos in my series of 123/ABC videos where I try and explain how a typical wedding flows and how you can make each moment special – the same kind of thing I cover at my Creating Your WOW Wedding events.

Here are links to some of the series …
First Impressions
Your Grand Entrance
Extended Grand Entrances

There are plenty more to look at. By the way, every picture on my website and in my videos are of couples it’s been my privilege to work with.

If you’d like more information about my events or would like a FREE no-obligation chat about your wedding entertainment please just let me know.

Happy Month!

What a lovely way to start the day … week … month! A message from a fabulous couple.

Hi Paul

Sorry this is so late we’re only starting to get straight after our wonderful month long honeymoon, but we wanted to say thank you so much for making our wedding day so special.

We absolutely loved all of our reception and evening party and we couldn’t have made it so great without all your help. You patience with us in planning and on the night with all the bands playing and your advice on having the quiz, advice cards, timings for the evening and inflatable microphones etc was invaluable. So thank you so much.

We have attached a few pictures for you of us and yourself on the day for your files.

Many thanks
Steve and Michelle

Annie’s Party

AT2

Last weekend I was delighted to travel up to Surrey to play for Annie’s birthday party. Annie and I spoke a couple of times on the phone prior to the event and talked about the music and how the evening was going to be set out.

AT1

There is a large stage at the venue which I could have used but I was very keen to set up on the floor so that the guests could come and talk with me easily.

AT3

Once all the guests arrived Annie made a lovely speech before cutting her very special birthday cake. She actually baked the cake herself and her friend Claire decorated it – it was delicious, Annie gave me a large piece which I enjoyed with my morning coffee the next day.

AT4

Today I received a lovely email from Annie, here are a couple of snippets …

“I didn’t totally believe you initially about making my party unforgettable … that is an understatement … it was an awesome evening”

“…one of my brothers couldn’t believe I had only met you an hour before the party .. he thought we’d known each other sometime!! You blended into the party and were great with guests requests.”

Woodlands Lodge Hotel

Woodlands Lodge

Here’s another one of my reviews that I’ve posted recently on the For Better For Worse website’s venue pages …

Situated a few miles out of Southampton, just off the A35 and easily reached from the M27, The Woodlands Lodge Hotel is brilliantly located for couples who want a New Forest Wedding.

I’m a DJ and Master of Ceremonies/Wedding Host, so I get to visit dozens of venues across the region and gain a unique behind-the-scenes insight and The Woodlands Lodge is among the most friendly hotels I’ve visited. Imogene and her team have created a really welcoming atmosphere that only a privately owned/run hotel could hope to achieve.

The venue has two rooms licensed for civil ceremonies and offer various options to accommodate different couples’ requirements for their wedding breakfast and evening reception.

If you are looking for a venue where you’ll feel at home, valued and relaxed I suggest you drop in for a chat with Imogene.

Woodlands Lodge Wedding Disco

Here’s a couple of pictures from a year ago today (10th December 2011) of my last wedding at The Woodlands Lodge for Matt & Kirsten’s Wedding.

Thank you Nancy!

Back in July I was proud to DJ for Phil and Nancy’s wedding at the fabulous Larmer Tree Gardens. You can see my post on my pre-event visit to the Larmer Tree Gardens HERE.

Nancy has just posted this review on Google …

“Paul the Wedding Party DJ made our wedding experience all the more gratifying. The bespoke service he provided leading up to the wedding, and on the day itself, was over and above everything we could have wished for. It’s easy to pick a DJ but we were so fortunate that we found Paul due to the unique service he provides. We knew nothing about Paul beforehand and found him via Google, then enjoyed watching his blogs at the weekends and decided to make contact with him.

We met Paul twice in the run up to the wedding. Off his own back Paul visited our venue to get a feel for the place and how he would set up on the day itself. He offered a service for our guests to submit song choices to him during the lead up to the day. Paul also ran through a few ideas he had for reacting to lack of activity on the dance floor e.g to get people engaged if the atmosphere was lacking. I really liked this as usually a DJ will just play the songs regardless of the audience’s interest. Most of our guests never left the dance floor all night.

Paul also familiarised himself with the names of our wedding party beforehand so that he could personalise the special songs we had requested e.g. the dance with my Dad. Finally, after our last song, Paul played a cheeky number which was a surprise to us, and was relative to our ceremony earlier in the day. The whole room joined hands and sang along. I will be eternally grateful to Paul for doing that. It was just brilliant!

Oh yes… and Paul was away on holiday the week before our wedding, but had lined up a friend who was to step into his shoes should another ash cloud have prevented him from returning to the UK!

So, if you are looking for a disco for your wedding reception – look no further. Paul really cares about your day and comes up with loads of ideas for different scenarios. He is not at all cheesy. Had we not proceeded with the disco theme – we certainly would have had him there
as a guest – he’s great!

I cannot justify enough, in words, Paul the Wedding Party and the service he provides!”

Nancy

Thank you so much Nancy, your kind words blew me away!

Feedback …

Just thought I’d share some feedback I’ve had following a recent 50th birthday party.

“Thanks for doing a great job last week. A lot of our guests and the staff at the venue were very impressed. Your professionalism, enthusiasm and sense of fun were plain to see.

Hope to see you another time.”
