A number of things happened over the last year that prompted my return to DJ’ing. Perhaps the biggest influence on my decision was this guy.
This is Jonathan a.k.a. Ellaskins, the DJ Tutor.
He runs a fantastic online DJ resource www.thedjtutor.com. It’s full of great youtube videos from Jonathan and other DJ’s around the world who are keen to share their knowledge and their experiences. Joe and I hope to contribute to the site one day, but for now we are just watching and learning.
When Joe first came to me and said he wanted to develop his DJ’ing skills I was a bit worried because I don’t consider myself great teacher – I struggle to get my meaning across sometimes. So I went looking for things that could help on the web, and that’s when I first found Jonathan. The way he, and the other DJ tutors go through various aspects of mixing, lighting, running a mobile disco, etc, are really easy to follow. Things that I’ve done over the years suddenly make more sense when I watch the videos and despite my 30 years of experience I’m still learning lots. All of the new lights we’ve got have been bought after watching reviews on the site.
The DJ Tutor has followers and contributors all around the world. The main members of the team with Jonathan, who lives in North Wales, are Brian Redd from America, John Beck from Australia, and DJ Angelo another UK based DJ.
They are all absolutely brilliant in their own ways. I’m sure I’ll post more about them in the future, but right now I’m off for a drink – I think I shall make a toast “to Jonathan and everyone at the DJ Tutor, Practice and Enjoy”, cheers!
